Units
Battlegroups in Steel Division: Normandy '44 are composed of units. Units are chosen during battlegroup composition before a battle starts and are deployed using requisition points, the currency of Steel Division. Units come in one of eight categories. In order from left to right as they appear in the requisition menu, they are: recon, infantry, tank, support, anti-tank, anti-air, artillery and air.
Recon[edit | edit source]
Units in the recon category often have the aptly-named RECON ability, indicated by a pair of binoculars on the unit's card. A recon unit's primary role is to spot enemy forces and provide vision, though they can serve in a light combat role if needed. Some recon units consist of small infantry squads, while others are armoured cars and other light, fast scout vehicles. Unlike most units in the game, recon units do not affect the frontline.
Infantry[edit | edit source]
Infantry units are the bread and butter of most battlegroups. They are, as the name suggests, composed of infantry such as rifles and machine gun teams and do the bulk of the fighting in an army. Infantry units include those with the LEADER ability, which provides a defence against suppression and morale damage, among other benefits.
Tank[edit | edit source]
Tank units comprise mobile, armoured vehicles armed with heavy armaments designed to suppress infantry or destroy enemy tanks (or both). Owing to their high potential for damage output, they are often some of the most expensive units in the game. Conversely, they are also extremely susceptible to anti-tank weapons and must be positioned carefully around the battlefield to avoid being destroyed.
